An organic garden above the Arctic Circle
Sandvika garden is part of our home on the island of Dyrøya. In summer, under the midnight sun, our organic garden grows more than ten varieties of strawberries, red and green rhubarb, redcurrants, blackcurrants and raspberries.
There are also all kinds of salads, cabbages, herbs, a fine collection of mints and many other Nordic vegetables that end up on your plate. Our Icelandic “Viking” chickens, an ancient and hardy breed, give us fresh eggs.

Our land, by the fjord
Our house is less than 100 metres from the fjord. Around it lie 21 hectares of nature: boulders and small cliffs, Nordic broadleaf and birch forest, and a beautiful peatland.
The land also has 300 metres of shoreline for fishing and swimming when the weather is fine. No need to go far: adventure starts at the front door.

Wild harvest
In the forest and on the rocky ground grow wild blueberries and lingonberries. On the mire, in late summer, we pick cloudberries, the orange “møltebær”, treasure of the Far North.

Birds and marine mammals
A wide variety of birds lives on our land and on the fjord, from forest songbirds to seabirds and coastal birds of prey.
In the fjord you may see harbour porpoises (“nise” in Norwegian), minke whales and dolphins. No sighting is guaranteed, but each one is a rare moment.

Skills to share
As an option during your stay, we offer an introduction to Nordic crafts, such as braided pewter-thread bracelets inspired by Sámi tradition.
