A small family team
Tundra Camp is the three of us, and nobody else: no subcontractors, no middlemen. We are the ones who welcome you in Dyrøy, guide you outdoors and cook for you.
Our house is on the island of Dyrøya, less than 100 metres from the fjord, amid 21 hectares of nature with 300 metres of shoreline, Sandvika garden and our Viking chickens.
Matthieu
Nature guide · wildlife photographer
Born in France with roots in Brittany, Matthieu trained in landscape gardening and environmental management, and works as a carpenter. He did field work in French Guiana (monitoring sea turtles and snakes), then worked as a nature guide in Finland and Northern Norway. He first came to Norway in 2009, travelled the wild valleys of Sarek and settled in Dyrøy in 2020. A photographer since the age of sixteen, he has followed the daily life of reindeer herders for several years.
Dorthe
Co-founder · management & accounts
Danish-born Dorthe spent ten years working with wolves, from France to the United States by way of Norway. A canine behaviourist and dog trainer, she changed course after injuring her hand while working with huskies. She then moved into accounting and running Tundra Camp, which she co-founded with Matthieu.
Elva
Youngest member of the team
Our little daughter is growing up here among snow, fjords and reindeer. She is also why we know how to adapt our stays to toddlers: what we offer families, we live ourselves.
Travel without a stopwatch
We prefer days full of experiences, without racing the clock, and flexible plans rather than a crowded timetable. No clock-watching excursions like the tourist factories: with us, we take our time, you choose your holiday and it evolves as the days go by. Our private groups are small and we approach landscapes and wildlife with care. The guide adapts the route to people, daylight and the conditions outdoors.
Ecology and local produce
We cook with organic, local produce: reindeer, moose, fish from the fjord, vegetables and strawberries from Sandvika, our organic garden, eggs from our Icelandic chickens. We work with local people and reindeer herders, respecting their work, Sámi culture and wildlife.
