Family & friends stays · 8 days

Two seasons, two ways to live the Far North.

Eight days in Troms, on the island of Dyrøya across from Senja, as a small private group: a couple, a family, or two couples of friends, with or without children. Choose your season: the snow and cold of winter, or the light from spring to autumn.

No stopwatch excursions like the big operators in Tromsø: with us, we take our time and your holiday evolves as the days go by.

Tailor-made week

Got ideas? Tell us.

Our flagship is the family & friends week. But every week is built with you: we are flexible and we love it when you come with ideas. Tell us what you enjoy, we imagine the rest.

You“Hello, we love hiking, fishing and birds.”
Tundra Camp“Thank you for your message! I suggest 4 to 5 days of hiking with nights in the tent, with one goal: reaching the head of Lake Altevatn, where three rivers meet. This very wild area is one of the most incredible places to fish for brown trout, pike and Arctic char, and to watch many breeding birds of the mountains and wetlands. Back from the trek, we can spend a day on the fjord deep-sea fishing and watching seabirds. For the remaining days, other options are open to you: a walk across a mire, climbing a small local mountain, a Senja tour… See you soon! 🙂”

Another example: a week for snorkelling fans can still include two days on Senja, a visit to the reindeer herders and a packrafting trip. Anything is possible depending on availability and the weather.

The Tundra Camp concept

  • A guide with you throughout your stay
  • All the equipment needed for the activities
  • Four high-standard dinners, organic and local, cooked by us
  • A meeting with reindeer herders
  • The Senja panorama tour
  • A mountain climb
  • A lake fishing trip
  • Local transport and snacks on excursions

Four high-end dinners, organic and local

Our four high-end dinners are cooked by us with organic, local produce: reindeer and moose, fresh fish such as cod or saithe, salmon, wild berries.

In summer Sandvika, our organic garden, gives more than ten varieties of strawberries, rhubarb, redcurrants, blackcurrants, raspberries, salads, cabbages and herbs, and our Icelandic “Viking” chickens provide fresh eggs.

Danish-born Dorthe also prepares generous gourmet platters from her home country, including the famous smørbrød, beautifully topped rye-bread open sandwiches.

Children & toddlers welcome

Here, children feel at home

We live here with our own little girl: families with young children, even toddlers, are at the heart of Tundra Camp. Everything is ready so they enjoy it as much as the grown-ups.

  • In winter: a pulk sled to pull the children on outings, small skis, sledges and lots of snow games.
  • In summer: the vegetable garden, a trampoline, a small zip line, the beach and berry picking.
  • All year: toys and equipment for toddlers at the house, and a pace adapted to every age.

Your group

A place to come together

We can welcome a couple, a family, or two couples travelling with children. There are three bedrooms: two double rooms and one children’s room with three beds. The arrangement accommodates up to four adults and three children.

The house is less than 100 metres from the fjord, surrounded by 21 hectares of nature: rocks, a small cliff, birch forest, a peatland and 300 metres of shoreline for fishing and swimming when the weather is fine.

Your stay is private and the programme adapts to the children’s ages, even very young ones: we live here with our own daughter and know what the Far North asks of little ones.

Frequently asked questions

Is the stay suitable for young children?

Yes. Days are adapted to everyone’s age and we live here with a little girl ourselves. Activities are chosen so that young and old can enjoy them.

Are the northern lights and wildlife guaranteed?

No. The aurora can be seen from late August to mid-April when the sky is clear, and wild animals cannot be ordered. We give you the best chances, without promises.

Do I need to bring equipment?

The equipment needed for the activities is provided. Bring good warm clothes: we send you a packing list before you travel.

What is the best season?

Every season has its charm: winter for snow, snowshoeing and the aurora; spring and summer for the midnight sun, fishing and the garden; autumn for colours and the return of dark nights.
